ABOUT THE CLUB

SBSC is one of the best kept secrets in the city. Our club is located in Bluffer's Park, at the foot of Brimley Road in Scarborough, right on Lake Ontario. We have a lovely two-story clubhouse adjacent to our harbour and docks. We liken it to having a cottage in the city. As a backdrop we have the scenic Cathedral Bluffs.

If you want to get into boating at a minimal cost, we are the club for you. We are even more attractive if you have a family, as a membership includes your spouse and dependent children under nineteen.

Our club accommodates only trailered boats, both sail and power, as well as paddle-craft. Paddle-craft are stored on racks but all other boats are stored on their trailers and must be able to be launched from our ramps. One factor which allows us to keep our fees to a minimum is not having the expense of the upkeep of permanent docks.

If you don't own a boat, we have a solution for that. The club owns a fleet of CL14, CL16 and 420 sailing dinghies which are available for the use of qualified members. If you don't have the qualifications, a course in our sailing school will soon remedy that.

The course is open to any adult wishing to acquire their Canadian Yachting Association White Sail III certificate. During the course, you have the use of the club and facilities, and upon graduation you will be offered the opportunity to become a trial-member for the duration of the membership year.

We have a variety of craft in our club. There are fishing boats, cruising sailboats, daysailers, catamarans, dinghies, canoes and kayaks. During the boating season there is racing and weekend cruises are organized for the larger sailboats. If you like to fish for the big ones, join the fishermen in the early morning and later commiserate over a beer about 'the one that got away'.

The club house is used by members year round, and social activities include pot-luck dinners as well as theme nights that we have at various times throughout the year. Another popular pastime are the pub and games nights.

There's lots more to tell, so contact us and come visit. You won't regret it.

LOCATION

Take Brimley south from Kingston Road to Bluffer's Park.
Follow the signs for the Yacht Clubs (the road to the left) at the bottom of the hill. This continues to the east and follows the line of the Bluffs. When you reach the fork in the road, take the right and continue south across the bridge to the gate with all the club signs on it.

If you find yourself in a parking lot at the east end of the road that follows the line of the Bluffs, you have gone too far.
